Whether you treat your mother to flowers, chocolates or lunch out on 27th March you will be honouring the English tradition of Mothering Sunday. Not to be confused with the modern American version started in the early 20th Century which is not directly related to the many traditional celebrations of mothers and motherhood, we still associate our older Christian traditions with
what is commonly called 'Mothers Day'
On this day, always on the 4th Sunday in Lent in the Christian calendar, it was usual to visit your 'mother church' where you were baptised and to honour your own mother. Anyone who did this was said to have gone 'mothering'. It also became a day when domestic servants living away from home were given a day off to visit their own mother church and meet their mothers and family members.
However you choose to honour the day, make it special with a gift to Mum of one of our pretty presentation boxes of chocolates or order a ballotin of our delicious coffee truffles to share with family after your Sunday lunch. Don't forget we can post out to a special Mother if you can't see her in person this year.
Chocolate Cooky wishes you a very happy Mothering Sunday
